About
About Me, Ian Bowman
The goal of this blog is to inform readers with concise and relevant technology articles. I aim for topics that don’t have a lot of online coverage. I also like to write about issues relevant to my own experience and interests. On that note, you’ll likely see a lot of posts about blogging, video editing, and programming. If I can find an excuse to write about books, classic vinyl records or retro video games, I’ll do that too. I prefer technology that is cheap, widely available and has a cultural impact.
More About Me
Starting at childhood I was fascinated by computers and technology. Later I attended college at the University of California at Davis. There I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in 2002 and a MS in Computer Science in 2004.
The day after I finished my Masters thesis I began working full-time as a Software Engineer. I continued to do that until 2008. During those four years I developed a passion for writing. I found I liked any type of writing, but especially enjoyed nonfiction and screenwriting.
In June of 2009, I moved from the Bay Area to Southern California.
Currently I am part of a creative nonfiction and screenwriting group in Venice. I am also pursuing a full-time technical writing position. Ideally this position would allow me to apply my in-depth experience as a software engineer, and my passion for putting words on paper.
Finally, it is through helping others that I find meaning in my life. I volunteer at the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club, doing work that makes use of my technical knowledge. I instruct children on everything from movie making to computer assembly. Generally I hang out with the kids and the staff and have a good time.
